It Could Be Worse
It could be worse — it really can, and yet people seem to be so bent out of shape about the apparently crumbling little bubble they’re living in.
I’m not one to claim that I don’t whine, nor complain about the bad things that I feel are happening in my life, but I certainly like to look at the bright side of things where possible. Whether it be right away, or after I’ve gone on a long rant about the fact that I can’t have something or rather. I eventually defer to the fact that “It could be worse”, and I’m lucky to be where I’m at currently and move on from whatever it was I was rambling about.
It baffles me that there are some people who don’t seem to have the same kind of realization. There are people who drone on and on about the miseries of life; the long line, the long wait, the flight of stairs, the cold weather, the hot weather, the neighbour who’s always having sex, the person who’s always smiling, the girl who keeps taking selfies of herself, and so on and so forth. It’s an endless list of possibilities when it comes to being able to take anything and complain about it.
And you might be reading this and thinking…well aren’t I complaining about this right now…And, yes, I am. I do so, because I’m wondering if these negative, pessimistic people, ever get tired of themselves sometimes. It must be exhausting when your thoughts are so consumed by all the things that one detests, and every other sentence starts with “I hate…”, or “this sucks”, or “I can’t”. Sometimes, they even try to drag you in to their world of doom and gloom, by starting a sentence off with “Don’t you hate it when…” I know it must be exhausting, because it can be tiresome for me just having to listen to all the negativity and have to take it in. It’s like a dark cloud that just hangs over you.
Thankfully there are others out there who will come by and try to make these negative people feel a little bit of appreciation about this wonderful world we live in. It may not always deter their negativity, but at least it’s a little ray of sunshine on an otherwise cloud-looming, overbearing conversation. They are the ones who always seem to have a smile on their face, uses words like fantastic, awesome, perfect and even fabulous. They have a contagious laugh that make you want to smile, even if you don’t know what they’re talking about. It’s like they have a jar of compliments and words of encouragement that never seems to run out. It’s as if they know exactly when you’re down and need some picking up. Basically, they brighten up the room and make you see life in a totally different light. Thank goodness for these people.
So, think to yourself, what kind of person are you? Are you the dark cloud that envelops a room as soon as you walk in, drowning others in a rain of negativity OR are you the bright ray of sunshine that brings warmth, joy and smiles to everyone's day?
Aspire to be the latter and always remind yourself — It could be worse.
